Zumba®
Zumba® combines moves used in different Latin dances such as samba, mambo and salsa, as well as belly-dancing, hip-hop and martial arts, all set to a soundtrack of upbeat Latin music tempos.
An Overview of Zumba®
Together, these various Zumba® fitness elements provide exciting, rhythmical exercise routines that are great fun.
It's like a disco in a gym and with more than 1 million people in now enrolled in classes, Zumba® is one of the most popular physical activities for women in Britain today.
Benefits
Combining fast and slow exercises, Zumba® keeps you on your toes (sometimes quite literally!). It's an aerobic workout so it's great for your cardiovascular health, can help to improve coordination and agility, and is a great way to meet a group of fun, like-minded women.
Costs
You can enjoy a Zumba® class from around £5 per hour, and you can often bulk buy sessions to bring the cost down.
Adaptations and Equipment
To get started you need comfortable clothes that you can dance in, don't let anything restrict your moves! You'll also need some trainers that provide good support, this is to protect your knees, ankles and hips. If you need help finding the right pair, talk to someone at your local sports retailer.
