Paid Opportunity - Sheffield Sharks Basketball are recruiting for Junior Team Head Coaches for the U14 and U18 age groups. The role will include coaching the training sessions of an age-group team (typically 2 per week in the evenings) and games (either Saturday or Sunday) from September to April. The coach will also need to make themselves available for relevant and statutory training to be compliant with the role. A fee per season of £500 will be paid to each Head Coach. This will be over 5 months plus agreed expenses.

Purpose

  • To select players for the age group team.
  • To lead the organisational, technical, tactical, physical and emotional development of an age-group team.
  • To design and implement high-quality training and in-game coaching, and to reflect the overall principles of the Sheffield Sharks player pathway as directed by the Sheffield Sharks Head Coach.
  • To work closely with the Sheffield Sharks Head Coach and junior Team Manager in creating an effective high performance environment.

Key Duties

  • To select, identify and recruit players to play for the age group team.
  • To work closely with the Sheffield Sharks Head Coach to ensure effective coaching for the development of age-group players.
  • To implement team and individual basketball concepts, principles as defined to you by the Sheffield Sharks Head Coach.
  • To lead and manage the team Assistant Coach(s)
  • To utilise effective coaching and teaching strategies to enhance individual and team development.
  • To comply with and enforce all Sheffield Sharks Policies relevant to the role
  • To ensure that the team fosters at positive and productive environment, which puts the needs of the child first and ensures their physical, emotional and development needs are being met.
  • To conduct and present themselves in a way which is consistent with the professional ethos of the Sheffield Sharks Basketball Club.
  • To ensure any safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and dealt with appropriately.
  • To maintain and develop a successful image and profile of the Sheffield Sharks Basketball Club, including in any media commitments as may be required.

Person Specification (Key Skills and Experience Essential to the Role)

  • Effective Leadership and a proven track record in a basketball environment.
  • Experience working with children and young people in sport.
  • Committed to personal develop and a willingness to embrace feedback.
  • Good communication skills with players, team managers, club staff and parents
  • Understanding of how individual players are motivated to be able to provide different approaches to develop best performance.
  • To work in collaboration with other club staff and volunteers as required to ensure best performance and development of the team.
  • Conveys an image consistent with the Sheffield Sharks Basketball Club values.
  • Willing to work irregular and unsociable hours to fulfil the commitments of the role.
  • Show integrity and is fair, equitable and ethical in approach.
