British Cycling: Accelerate – The Sustainable Events Fund

Accelerate - The Sustainable Events Fund, has been designed to give our communities a financial boost in taking action to reduce the environmental footprint of cycling events across the country, and help engage our communities on collective action.

About British Cycling: Accelerate – The Sustainable Events Fund

British Cycling's sustainable events fund 'Accelerate' has now reopened for a second round of support, with an investment of £50,000 available.

The Accelerate fund, alongside our tailored sustainability guidance, aims to provide a supportive first step, elevate the conversation and lead the charge for sustainable sport within our cycling community, promoting a culture of environmental awareness in communities. To achieve this, the next round of funding is split into two parts:

Accelerate

The core aspect of this round of funding will be available to event organisers and is embedded within our new application guide for prospective hosts. Up to £30,000 will be available for grants ranging from £750 to £1,000, where potential organisers will need to outline proposed elements of sustainability at their events.
Organisers will have to consider factors, including longevity and return on investment, and considering implementing our structured recommendations on how to make events more sustainable. Collaborating with stakeholders, last year we created the British Cycling Environmental Event Guide as a resource to work collectively to a reduce the environmental footprint of cycling events, and event organisers will be able to access further support for their events.

Club Innovation

Funding will continue in the same process as the Accelerate Pilot and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Up to £20,000 is available, with us particularly looking to help those with stretched funding and limited resources available. Creativity and innovation is encouraged, with previous examples including tree planting, LED lighting and electric travel. Funding will be awarded once reviewed by our internal panel
