Rotherham PE Conference 25/26 in partnership with Moving Rotherham and School Games

Being a PE lead, whether you are new to the role or more experienced, can be very overwhelming at times. There are so many facets to the role, which also encompass broader physical activity and school sport. This year, with the support of local partners, we want to take the PE conference season back to its roots – supporting PE leaders to truly understand their curriculum subject, what high quality PE delivery and assessment looks like and how to ensure that PE doesn't sit as a subject in isolation but is integral to the culture of the wider school.

However, there is a bigger picture here, which supports the rationale to place PE at the heart of this years conference. There is currently a lot of change, uncertainty and noise at a national level that is swirling around physical education. Will the outcomes of the curriculum review result in any significant changes? Will the PE and Sport Premium continue beyond the 25/26 academic year? How will the new national 'SSP' structure from September 2026 impact on the PE leader role? We want to try and support PE leaders how to cut through the noise, navigate changes but ultimately focus on what will have the biggest impact on the pupils they serve.

That's why we are delighted to welcome as our headline speaker Kate Thornton-Bousfield, the new CEO of afPE. Kate will join us to help unpick this national landscape, provide clarity on the future of PE and highlight the key elements that should form part of any high quality PE curriculum.

What will the day involve?

In addition to hearing from afPE CEO Kate Thornton-Bousfield, the rest of the day will provide a mixture of practical strategies and theoretical content with an opportunity for delegates to learn from a variety of keynote speakers and interactive workshops. In response to your feedback, there will also be an opportunity for you to network with likeminded colleagues and listen to best practice case studies from other schools in relation to physical education. Lunch and refreshments wqill be provided as always.
