Only 47% of children are meeting the CMO's guidelines of 60 minutes of physical activity each day. More worryingly, significant inequalities remain, with Black and Asian children (40%), and those from the least affluent families (44%), still less likely to be physically active and girls (44%) are less likely to be active than boys (51%). What barriers prevent these pupils from participating, and what challenges do PE leaders face in closing this gap? Our conference, supported by district partners, will focus on strategies to help schools identify and support these pupils through curriculum PE, extracurricular sports, and broader physical activity initiatives.

Resetting The Scoreboard: Tackling inequalities through PE, Sport and Physical Activity

What will the day involve?

The day will provide a mixture of practical and theory with an opportunity for delegates to learn from a variety of keynote speakers and interactive workshops. These aim to provide schools with strategies and ideas to take back to school, in order to 'reset the scoreboard' for all pupils within PE and Sport.

Please note, a finalised agenda for each district conference will be advertised in due course.

Keynote Speaker: JAMIE JONES-BUCHANAN

Jamie is an ex Rugby League player, playing for his entire professional career with Leeds, winning seven Super League Grand Finals, three World Club Challenges, three League Leaders' Shields and one Challenge Cup Final with the club. He played for England and Great Britain at international level. Jamie is now the Director of Diversity, Culture and Inclusivity at Leeds Rhinos Foundation, and will join us for a Q & A discussion on his journey and to unpick how positive experiences are essential in supporting children to find their joy in movement.

Workshop choices are set to include 'Inclusion & SEND PE' and support with how you can effectively spend your PE and Sport Premium on targeted interventions for pupils.

A 'Poster Presentation Hour' will also be on the agenda, where five schools will present and take questions on how they are using targeted interventions to get inactive pupils more active.

As in previous years, the event will also include key national, local and school games updates for each district.

Finally, in response to feedback from our conferences, there will also be increased time for you to network with likeminded colleagues than events in the past and have those supportive conversations around best practice.

Who is the conference for?

  • Headteachers
  • Governors
  • PE leaders
  • PSHE leaders
  • SENCOs
  • Wider school staff who have a remit to support and/or deliver PE, Sport and physical activity in schools
