The Volunteer Coordinator is the point of contact for all volunteers within Leeds Stars Club. He / she is responsible for ensuring that the requested number of volunteers are assigned to the required roles for the everyday running of the club and in their competitions and that all volunteers are officially registered with Special Olympics Great Britain. He / she should ensure that all volunteers are deployed appropriately, valued and recognised for their time and contribution.

Estimated hours: 12 hours per month

Role Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is the point of contact for all volunteers within Leeds Stars Club. He / she is responsible for ensuring that the requested number of volunteers are assigned to the required roles for the everyday running of the club and in their competitions and that all volunteers are officially registered with Special Olympics Great Britain. He / she should ensure that all volunteers are deployed appropriately, valued and recognised for their time and contribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Led by the Steering Group, identify which specific volunteer positions need to be filled within its sports coaching and competition programme, administration, fundraising, general coordination or communication areas
  • Be an active member of the Leeds Stars Steering Group, contributing to discussions and actioning volunteer recruitment and retention related requests
  • Compile a list of contacts in the local area, including corporate sponsors, sports clubs, schools and colleges, local sports partnerships, large businesses and other voluntary organisations (e.g. Lions, YMCA, etc), to contact for support (Recruitment) when needed
  • Ensure all Special Olympics GB volunteers complete the volunteer registration process Maintain a full list of currently active volunteers from within Leeds Stars and complete an Annual Volunteer Audit – (NVO to provide details)
  • Support the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Identifier to identify volunteers who need a DBS and support them to complete that process.
  • Provide new volunteers with an Induction into Leeds Stars and the Special Olympics
  • Work with the National Volunteer Office (NVO) to provide Volunteer Recognition ideas and organise events.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

The candidate must:

  • fully endorse the mission and philosophy of People In Action
  • To have an understanding of the Special Olympics
  • Be committed to supporting a positive experience for all Special Olympics members (athletes, Unified Partners, volunteers) in Leeds Stars.
  • be a minimum of 18 years of age and be able to complete the Special Olympics GB volunteer registration process in full
  • Be highly organised
  • Be able to demonstrate leadership qualities and the ability to foster a spirit of teamwork.
  • Have experience of working within both short and long term timescales, with supervision.
  • Have the ability to be flexible with the completion of tasks

Desirable criteria

The candidate could have:

  • experience of working with individuals with an intellectual (learning) disability
  • experience of working with volunteers
  • experience of working in the sports sector

Notes

  • This role does requires completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service check and a we may be required to provide a reference if requested by Special Olympics GB National Office or the Club / Network Steering Group
  • This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Leeds Stars will pay for volunteer travel expenses.
