About Exim Dance Company CIC
Exim Dance Company is a Plymouth based award winning Dance Company known for their fresh and vibrant approach to making dance accessible for all. Exim has established itself as an exciting company of artists & practitioners in the South West of England, creating professional Dance Theatre and Educational Outreach Pathway Programs as well as extensive weekly services in the local community. Exim exists to provide opportunities for 'At Risk' young people to participate in socially engaged dance classes.
We are passionate about using dance to help vulnerable young people, breaking down the ideological barriers that surround dance, holding inclusivity at the heart of all of our work. To do this we believe that as well as delivering our own programme of work we must also provide high quality training and opportunities to students and professionals wishing to work as dance practitioners. The majority of Exim's community work is delivered in deprived areas of Plymouth, with a high focus on mental health and well-being through a personal centred approach.
All Exim staff are Plymouth based, living within the areas we are working in so understand the importance of building stronger communties.
Exim Dance Company CIC currently run 25 weekly projects across Plymouth engaging 350 people on a weekly basis in a variety of settings from Schools, Colleges, Universities, Youth and Community Centres.
Our current projects include The Making Waves Project, which provides free weekly technique and creative classes for year 9+ students who are considering higher education. This training programme will prepare young people for studying dance at college and/or University. Another project is ADAPT Youth Dance Company where a two hour weekly dance sessions is provided for those with hidden and physical disabilities. Ernesettle Youth Dance Company provides two hour weekly sessions for females with disadvantaged and deprived backgrounds in the deprived area of Ernesettle, Plymouth.
